Following our sell-out "Practical GDPR" event in London last month we shall be running another in Edinburgh on April 17.  We made sure it was as practical as possible, and we are delighted that participants found it really useful.

So GDPR. You know it’s coming. You’ve read the guidance. You’ve attended a webinar. You’ve begun to prepare…

…But you’re still not quite sure exactly what you need to say in your privacy notice. Or whether you should carry out a consent campaign (or what that would look like if you did). And you’re not certain what the grounds for processing for all your business processes are, if you can use legitimate interest, or whether you can still do prospect research.

And you’re not alone.

During our work with our clients we have heard these uncertainties many times. Understanding what is needed to be compliant with GDPR can turn into a full-time job. Answering one question often seems to just throw up another. And although there’s a heap of guidance out there, navigating it, figuring out which bit to do when, applying it all to your own context, and actually putting it into practice is no simple task.

If this sounds like you and your situation, and you’d like some help and guidance to clear away the confusion, then read on.

On 17th April, we will be running a one-day practical workshop that will help you to move beyond the GDPR theory to create an action plan for what you and your organisation need to do, and give you the tools and the confidence for getting it done.

Using your responses to a questionnaire that we’ll get you to answer in advance of the day, we’ll build on what you know already to guide you through the completion of a workbook that will enable you to:

  • map out your business processes;

  • determine your grounds for processing;

  • establish what you have told people you will do with their data and why;

  • carry out a legitimate interests assessment using real examples.

We’ll explore what consent looks like (especially in relation to marketing), we'll take you through steps to work out whether you’ve already got it, and how you can go about getting more. We’ll show how you can do prospect research lawfully. And, with case studies, we’ll illustrate the importance of creating clear privacy notices together with communications that not only tell people what you do with their data, but inspire them to want to engage with you more.

By the end of the day you’ll be more knowledgeable, more confident, and better equipped to return to your office with a clear plan of what you need to do to become GDPR compliant, together with the practical ability to actually get it done.

Who should attend?

Anyone who is involved with implementing GDPR in a fundraising or supporter engagement context. It’s for major gift and direct marketing fundraisers, prospect researchers, operations staff, those involved in alumni and supporter engagement, and related marketing, including ticket sales and new supporter recruitment.

What won't it cover?

In this workshop we will be focusing on the practical application of GDPR for fundraising and supporter engagement staff. We won't be covering broader areas that are generic to most organisations, such as a data security or the appointment of Data Protection Officers, and so on.

Facilitators

The workshop will be led by Adrian Beney and Rosie Dale.

Adrian has been a fundraiser for more than 30 years. He has been involved with work on fundraising and data protection for most of that time; from early dicussion with the regulator about the implementation of the current Data Protection Act to commentary and training on GDPR and its intersection with the new Fundraising Regulatory regime. He is More's lead partner on regulatory affairs.

Rosie has been a fundraiser for 18 years and during this time has led Regular Giving and Supporter Engagement programmes and headed up Data and Analytics teams. She joined More as a Partner last year and has combined her knowledge of mass marketing and data protection to support clients with the practical implementation of GDPR.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday 17th April, from 10am to 5pm.
